Studio notes from the week the new single came together.
Golden Hour started as a voice note. I was sitting on the rocks at Camps Bay watching the light do the thing it does for about four minutes before it's gone, and I just started humming into my phone before I'd even worked out what I was trying to say.
Most of the record happened over five days in a small studio in Woodstock, windows open, no real schedule. We kept the tempo slower than my instinct wanted because the song isn't about urgency — it's about the part of the evening where nobody's in a hurry to be anywhere else.
The hardest part wasn't the production, it was knowing when to stop adding things. There's a version with a string arrangement that I genuinely loved and cut anyway, because it started explaining a feeling that worked better left alone.
